Ruthe Kathleen (VanHouten) Toonstra, age 89, of Jenison, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2022. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Elmer Toonstra; brothers, John (Bertha) VanHouten, Jay VanHouten, and Dave VanHouten; sister, Jo (Marv) Huizingh; brothers-in-law, Henry (Henrietta) Toonstra, and Rev. Martin (Joyce) Toonstra; and sisters-in-law, Sylvia (Bob) Westra, Jo (Bob) Turner, and Jeannette (Harold) Barber. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jill and Henry Jr. Dahm, Mary and Randy Shaheen, and Dan and Kim Toonstra; grandchildren, Jessica (Dahm) and Nathin Peters, Henry Joshua and Katie Dahm, Jenna (Dahm) and Joel Birky, Justin Elmer Dahm, Jonathan Shaheen and Sara Bergen, Nora Shaheen, Emily Shaheen, Amy Shaheen, Zachary and Heather Toonstra, Meghan Toonstra, and Alex (Toonstra) and Brandon Benoit; great-grandchildren, Henry, Asher, EllaMae, and Isaac Dahm; Olivia and Wyatt Toonstra, Ella and Colton Toonstra; sister-in-law, Linda VanHouten; brothers-in-law, Ed (Marilyn) Toonstra, and Arnie (Thea) Toonstra. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. The burial will take place at Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Unity Christian High School.
