Ruth Rahn Howson

Ruth Howson, age 89, of Rockford was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arthur Thomas; sister Lois Coulson; brothers, Fred Rahn, Al Rahn, Chet Rahn and son-in-law Kai Sun. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her children Kathy Sun, John Howson, Carolyn (John) Calcutt; grandchildren, Laura (Ryan) Smith, Kristen (Kyle) Rose, Emily (Jacob Goryl) Sun, Christie (Carlos) Medina; great grandchildren, Juniper, Kai, Penelope, Elliott, Oliver, Jack, Dean, Clark, brother, Ken Rahn, brother-in-law, Bill (Anne) Howson, and dear friend Dana White, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ruth was a warm, caring, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and passed on a genuine appreciation of nature and the outdoors. Ruth had a big heart and truly enjoyed her teaching career with first and second graders at Reeths Puffer Schools. She was an active woman who spent time knitting, sailing, skiing, and backpacking in the Smoky Mountains. Ruth was an avid gardener and volunteered at the Fredrick Meijer Gardens. She attended GVSU for her Bachelor Degree and WMU for her Masters Degree and was the first in her immediate family to obtain a college degree. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 4:30 pm.
