Ruth Postma

February 12, 2024

Ruth Postma, age 95, of Jenison, quietly left this earth to join the heavenly choir on Monday, February 12, 2024. The daughter of Ralph and Hermina Herrema, she arrived the fifth of their nine children.

Quiet, unassuming but always active and oh so curious. She humbly served all her life, within her family and within Hope Church. She loved family gatherings whether it was Sunday coffee times after church, picnics, or meeting for lunch. Ruth was an avid walker but also at the heart of her life was her love of music. She faithfully sang in several choirs, the Herrema Sisters Trio, the Hope Church Trio and frequently sang solos. Ruth was always composed, handled anything life threw at her and never, ever complained. She was a phenomenal cook, baker, and seamstress. She loved God and her family, and many were blessed to be loved by her.

Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her children, son, Roger (Sharon) Postma, and daughter, Janice Postma; grandchildren, Christine Postma, Jeffrey Postma (Shani Feyen), Stacy Stanley, and Darlene Postma. Also surviving are her sister, Bea Geelhoed; brothers, Jun (Carrie) Herrema, Nels (Jean) Herrema, and Arch Herrema; sisters-in-law, Stella Postma, Carol Koetje; brothers-in-law, Sherm (Angie) Postma, Bill (Coralyn) Postma; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Floyd Postma; an infant daughter; her son, David (Janet) Postma; sisters, Lucille Herrema, and Mae (Don) Kramer; brothers, Harv (Margaret) Herrema, and Rich (Tress) Herrema; in-laws, Linda Herrema, Mart Geelhoed, Ethel (August) Wagner, Johanna (Floyd) VanSloten, Howard (Adele) Postma, John Postma, Fritz Postma. Phil (Sara) Postma, and Paul Postma.

With hearts of gratitude, we thank the wonderful nursing staff of Waterford Place Assisted Living.
