Ruth Marie Huizinga

Ruth Marie Huizinga, age 93, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025. Born on March 11, 1932, in Grayling, MI, Ruth dedicated her life to caring for others, a passion that began with her education at Hackley Hospital, where she earned her Registered Nursing degree.

Ruth spent many years working in hospitals throughout Grand Rapids, where her compassion and dedication to her patients made a lasting impact. She retired in the 1970s, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service.

Ruth is survived by her four beloved children, Michael Robert, Mark Wayne, Debra Sue, and David Charles. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clarence Huizinga; her parents, Madeline and Charles Decker; her sisters, Dorothy Moore, Betty Cornell; and brother Charles.

A lifelong lover of reading, Ruth enjoyed paraphrasing books and sharing stories with those around her. She also had a deep affection for animals and was skilled in playing the piano and organ. She loved playing the baritone as part of the Kentwood Community Band, where she found joy in making music with others. Her warmth and generosity extended to all who needed her and she will be remembered for her unwavering love and support.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring. Details regarding the date and location will be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids.

Ruth Marie Huizinga will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
