Russell Povenz, Sr.

Russell Povenz, Sr., age 92, of Jenison, formerly of Kalamazoo, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Russ was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was an avid stamp collector and sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching baseball. Russ was a founding member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Geraldine “Jerry”. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Russell Jr. and Mary Povenz, Cathleen and John Mulder, Kevin and Karagay Povenz, Joseph and Cari Povenz, Steven and Michele Povenz, 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Heuser; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison with Fr. Phong Pham presiding. Burial will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South in Kalamazoo, MI. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday, July 24 from 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Sunset Legacy Foundation.
