Russell Boone, age 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 30, 2026. Born on January 1, 1930, in Moline, Michigan, to Jacob and Rena Boone, Russ lived a long and meaningful life, marked by his dedication to God and family, quiet strength, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of everyday living. He was a man of integrity, resilience, and kindness, whose steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Russ was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 74 years, Margaret (Bouchard) Boone. Together they built a love rooted in faith, commitment, and shared memories that span nearly a century. He was a proud father to Deborah (Alvin Gritter), Russ (Martha Boone), and Karen (Donald Waite). He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren, and a treasured great-grandfather to 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Hoven and was one of eight children. Russ proudly served in the U.S. Air Force with the 52nd Criminal Investigation Unit based out of Rhein-Main Air Base, Frankfurt, Germany. After leaving the military, Russ made a career in heating and air conditioning and later in designing wood burning systems for large factories. A man of faith, Russ trusted deeply in God and lived his beliefs through kindness, patience, and compassion. His faith was a source of strength during both joyful and challenging times, guiding the way he loved and treated his family and others. He found comfort in prayer and peace in knowing his life was held in God’s hands. Russ served various churches as a youth leader and elder. For nearly four decades, he proudly served leading worship services at Grand Valley Nursing Home and later at Holland Home. Throughout his life, Russ was known for his strong work ethic, love of conversation, sense of humor, faith, and service to others. His stories, wisdom, and guidance will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Wayne Ondersma and Rev. Russ Boone officiating. The burial will take place at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, February 4, from 5-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the start of the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Emmanuel Hospice.
