Señor Rosendo Ramirez passed away in his sleep in the home of his daughter from complications due to a recent heart attack. He was born on December 7, 1927, in Mayari, Cuba, to Santos and Carmen Ramirez. He was raised with eight siblings, married in Cuba to Caridad, and then emigrated to America with his family. He was predeceased by his wives, Caridad and Maria, his daughters Elizabeth Rivera and Vicki Ramirez, his grandson Esteban Pou, and his great-grandson Brady Slater. Rosendo emigrated with his family in March of 1962 and lived in Brooklyn, NY, welcoming another daughter, before settling in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and adding two more children to his family.

Rosendo is survived by six children: Maria Ramirez, Rosendo Ramirez (Lynne), Daisy Cruz (Abner), Marilyn Ramirez (Johnny), Jigsey Ramirez (Ernesto), and Marvin Ramirez (Robin). Grandchildren are Rodolfo Pou III (Sharon), Esteban Pou (deceased), Eduardo Rivera Jr., Angelica Rivera (Jason), Sara Schader (Mike), Christina Stephenson (Duane), Nicolas Cruz, Aaron Cruz (Samantha), Zachary Ramirez (Jaclyn), Francisco Gausachs (Rebecca), Jorge Gausachs, Kelsey Ramirez, Eric Ramirez, Erlandy Veliz Grandal (Maira), Acacia Ramirez, Tanieka Ramirez, Christian Veliz Angulo, and Alexis.

Rosendo has 18 great-grandchildren; Lauren, Brady, Logan, Sophia, Kayden, Dominic, Yaneli, Yliana, Mia, Jada, Wilhelmina, Hannah, Winnifred, Jordan, Leiyani, Joshua, Wren, and Jadalyse. Also, 7 great-great-grandchildren: Emery, Oakley, Ryker, McKinley, Khalil, Chasten, and Luciana.

It would be an understatement to say that Rosendo was a hard worker. He worked at Rapistan Systems until retirement at age 82. He enjoyed many enduring friendships made during his time at that company. He was also the owner of two well-known bodegas on Grandville Avenue in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He owned and maintained several rental properties throughout his life. This is the life he came to build when he emigrated with his family. The story of how he accomplished this is both courageous and heroic.

Lastly, but certainly most importantly, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He is resting with him now. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

Special thanks to Jigsey, Ernesto, and Erlandy for their kind and gentle care during the past year. They were selfless in their consistently excellent caregiving. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. A Celebration of Rosendo’s life will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the Church of the Open Door, 1730 Burlingame Avenue SW, Wyoming, with Pastor Kevin Matthews officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Church of the Open Door.
