Rosemary Kilmartin, age 89 of Caledonia was called to her heavenly home on Thursday January 26, 2017. Rosemary was preceded in death by her siblings, Josephine, Irene, Pete, and John; granddaughter, Heather Jo. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 67 years, Edmund; children, Anne and Mark Azkoul, Dennis and Nancy Kilmartin, Michael and Judy Kilmartin, Patricia and Dean Benedict, Timothy and Andrea Kilmartin; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Louise Slater, sisters-in-law, Delores Parbel, Loraine Parbel; brother-in-law, Joe and Sandy Kilmartin; and many nieces and nephews. Rosemary was an adventurous, willing-to-try-anything woman who raised five children. Every family gathering involved her cooking and soon became a party. She prayed a lot, especially when her family was taking her on Mac Woods Dune Rides, the Spook House, and Mackinac Bridge. Rosemary was devoted to her faith and church and raised her children in that same faith. She was very involved in church, teaching catechism, lectoring, being a Eucharistic Minister, and many other servant positions. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Holy Family Church, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia with Rev. Loc Trinh presiding. The family will meet family and friends from 6 - 8 pm on Monday at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 616 E. Main St., Caledonia and one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday at church. A Vigil service will be held Monday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the SIDS Foundation or Faith Hospice.

I hadn't seen Mrs. Kilmartin in many years, but I will never forget the family name, or some limited memories of the lady herself. I seem to vaguely recall when the family moved out to "Alaska" when I was pretty young - perhaps because it was not far from a park along the river where my dad sometimes took me fishing. True or not, my memory of her was of someone who did not go un-noticed - she had a certain "presence". She and Mr. Kilmartin were longtime friends of my parents - and certainly among those who will forever be "Mr." or "Mrs." to me. I offer my deepest sympathies to her family, and to those friends who knew her well.

What a special, wonderful lady. Always had a smile and a kind word, and for some reason, I remember her as a tremendous hugger. We will miss you here, but know you are moving on to bigger and better things. My sympathies to her wonderful family, whom I've know since childhood. Love you, Mrs. K!
