A celebration of life for Ronald “Ron” R. Smith, age 82, of Hastings, MI. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 1-3pm prior to the service at 3pm at Peace Church, 6950 Cherry Valley Rd, Middleville, with Pastor Bob Hudberg (“PB”) and Pastor Steve DeKok. Ron Smith, a loyal husband, proud father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a faithful servant of Christ, was welcomed home on Sunday, May 4, 2025, following brain cancer. His life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and resilience. Ron's courage, unwavering faith in God, the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried him through multiple treatments and surgery. His greatest desire was to share the love of Christ with others, always testifying to God’s faithfulness in his own life despite many hardships. Ron attended Caledonia High School, Grand Rapids Community College, and Ford Community College. He was employed at General Motors in Grand Rapids in 1967. Ron became an engineer of Power House, a division of GM in 1980. He retired from GM in 1990. Ron was an avid sportsman in muzzle loading and participated in many tournaments for black powder guns. He won numerous Michigan state muzzle loading association state championships and national muzzle loading championships between the years of 2010 to 2018. Ron also enjoyed hunting in Nebraska for 30 years and was a hunting guide for mule deer and white tail deer. He was a taxidermist for deer, fox, caribou, bear, elk, and all species of fish. Ron’s wall mounts at his home were proudly displayed and envied by many people. He loved fishing with family and friends. Ron thoroughly loved teaching his sons and grandsons the sport. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bessie Smith; his first wife, Sharon; sisters, Phyllis and Ruth; brother, LeRoy. He is survived by his beloved bride of 2 ½ years, Janice “Jan” Tossava; sons, Ronald R. (Sandy) Smith, Brian D. (Jill) Smith; grandchildren, Nicole (Hillary), Andy, Nate (Angie), Adam (Taylor), Noah (Morgan), Anne, Amanda, and Josiah; great grandchildren, Elijah, Lauren, and Tate.
