Chivis- Ronald James "Ronnie" ​Chivis​ ​aged 56 ​of Grand Rapids, born October 31, 1957, Walked on to be with other loved ones that he missed dearly on May 2, 2014 Surrounded by his children, grandchildren and many family and friends when God called him to make that journey home. He was preceded in death by father, John LeRoy Chivis Sr.; mother, Gladys Chivis-Davis; brother, John LeRoy Chivis Jr.; sisters, Jacqueline A. Pratt, Katherine Marie Stinger; brother-in-law, Imants Sulainis and his son, Baby Boy Chivis. Surviving are his children, Becky (Jonathan) Rinehart, Joan (Pablo, preceded by) Bonilla, Tana (Gean) Alber, Aaron (Maia) Chivis, Adam Chivis; their Mother, Patricia Mashka-Burfield; 31 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Barbara J. Sulainis; brothers-in-law, David Stinger, Ron Pratt; sister-in-law, Pam Chivis; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Ronnie was a member of the Little River Band of the Ottawa Indians. He also dedicated a majority of his life to Huron Potawatomi Tribal Politics. He was an avid sportsman and was known as "The Legend" when he bowled. Ronnie was a devoted family man that enjoyed cooking, holidays and sharing his talent in beading. A Celebration of Ron's life will be held 1:00PM Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 3131 S. Division Ave. His family will greet relatives and friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Interment Bradley Indian Cemetery.
