Roger TeGrootenhuis

Roger TeGrootenhuis, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026. 

Roger grew up in Baldwin, Wisconsin and moved to Wyoming, Michigan in 1963 after accepting a position with Keeler Brass. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to the company before retiring. Roger also proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for six years.

Roger will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose kindness and love touched many lives. He had a passion for carpentry and woodworking and took great joy in building birdhouses and furniture for family and friends. In retirement, Roger continued serving others by volunteering at the food pantry at John Knox Presbyterian Church and providing transportation for patients through Ronald McDonald House Charities of West Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lois; his special friend who he met while at Gilda’s Club, Gloria Gerrits; his parents, Christian (Angeline) TeGrootenhuis; siblings, William TeGrootenhuis, Marie Bosman, Agnes Martineau, Morris TeGrootenhuis, Bertha Van Huekelom, Lucille deWolde, and David TeGrootenhuis; parents-in-law, Lloyd (Lola) Hockenson; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lorraine Seydel, Leroy Hockenson, and Lyle Hockenson. 

Roger will be lovingly remembered by his children, Brian (Angie) TeGrootenhuis, Bonnie (Scott) Vandermissen, Beverly (Mark) Watson, Blenda TeGrootenhuis and Nichole Johnson; grandchildren: Noah (Jennie), Ian (Casey), Stephanie (Josh), Rachael, Jonathan, Zachary, Nichole, Marianne; great-grandchildren, James and Zelie; siblings, Arlene Bailey, Onetta Siegersma, Olive Terpstra, Russell TeGrootenhuis, Maleeta Yonker; sister-in-law, Linda Gossel; several nieces, nephews, and friends at Gilda’s Club; and his special friend, Shirley Marks. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Allendale) 6651 Scott St. with Pastor Matt Bistayi officiating. A luncheon at Valley Church (5980 Lake Michigan Dr., Allendale) will immediately follow the service. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Sunday, May 17 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Gilda’s Club.
