Roger Jay VanderWest

Roger Jay VanderWest, age 85, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his son, Jon. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Winona (Karsten); son, Dean VanderWest; daughter, Dawn and Tom Mulder; daughter-in-law, Shirlene VanderWest; 4 grandchildren, Jason (Kenna) VanderWest, Chad (Molly Wooldridge) VanderWest, Kim (Scott) Hesselink, Kevin (Nikki) Mulder; 3 great grandsons. Rog proudly served our country in the US Navy. He started out his career in the Kent County Forestry Department.  He then worked for Kent County Parks Department at Douglas Walker Park. Rog was involved at Brookside Church in Cadets, choir, Coffee Break nursery and the Mobile Food Pantry. Memorial services will be held Tuesday 11 am at Brookside Christian Reformed Church, 3600 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Paul DeVries officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 5-8 pm at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Brookside Mobile Food Pantry.
