Roger Henry Buys

Roger Henry Buys, age 83, of Jenison, passed peacefully away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 after a 10 year long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He is joyfully in the arms of God, his Father. Roger led a full and happy life focused on family and his love of the great outdoors: fishing, camping, and traveling. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He was the owner of Central Cooling and Heating in SE Grand Rapids. Roger was a loving and giving husband, father, and grandfather who possessed a great sense of humor and the love of music. He will be forever missed and remembered by his wife of 61 years, Norma Jean Buys (Dandrow); his children, Beth and Grant Senner, Lori and Roy Phillipi, Richard and Julia Buys; his grandchildren Lindsay and Allison Buys, Molly, Peri, Lukas, Logan, and Avery Phillipi. Roger now abides in Heaven with his daughter Patricia Jean Smeelink (Buys) who pre-deceased him in 1980. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 2 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. with Rev. Gary Van Koevering officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home, as well as Friday from 1-1:45 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Roger's name to a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakcrest/American House of Holland and Gentiva Hospice for the love and compassionate care given to Roger during the past 3 years.
