Remembering Roger Dale Petree

Roger Petree, age 59, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Roger grew up in Morristown, Tennessee, and moved to Grand Rapids as a child, where he grew and built his life in the Black Hills Neighborhood. Known for his quick wit and southern hospitality, he never met a stranger he wouldn't talk to and had a knack for giving everyone a nickname. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was happiest when working with his hands, whether fixing cars, tackling projects around the house, or spending time outdoors. A devoted Detroit Lions fan, Roger remained loyal through every season. He especially enjoyed spending time outside at home, where one of his favorite daily rituals was feeding peanuts to the squirrels that visited his yard. Above all, he will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, and legacy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Beardsley and stepfather, Chuck Beardsley and eight aunts and uncles. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara Petree; children, Ashley Ball (Adam Jenerou),  Kay (Cameron) Wendel, Laura (Andrew) Jenerou, Sara (Bradley) Petree, Rusty (Kassandra) Petree; sister, Bridget Folk; step-mother, Nancy Beardsley; grandchildren, Josh (Megan), Ava, Kylah, Tesla, Miles, Halle, and Aisla; nieces and nephews, Marissa, Taegan, Aden; great-nieces and nephews, Alannah, Vinny, and Lyric; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

According to the family's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family invites those to wish to join in a celebration of life at the UAW Hall Local 167, 1320 Burton St SW, Wyoming, MI 49509 Thursday June 11 from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

This man right here even though wasn’t officially it this man was absolutely my father in law. He didn’t like the idea of me at first because of how protective he was of Sara but once he got to know me we were like best friends. My heart breaks knowing I’ll never see him or hear his laughter anymore but I’m so glad he isn’t hurting anymore. I’ll miss you dad you were one hell of a guy❤️ love your future son in law Bradley
