Rodney Lee LaHuis

Rodney Lee LaHuis, age 75, peacefully passed away at home on April 7, 2025. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on April 16, 1949, son of Gordon and Merna LaHuis of Wyoming, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; his dear son, Chad LaHuis; and his brother, Timothy LaHuis. He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Shirlee LaHuis (nee Ream); children, Sean (Kelly) LaHuis, Tracie (Robert) Simons, and Melanie (Shaun) DeBoe; grandchildren, Aubrie, Madeline, Isabelle, Allan, Renee, Alyssa, Lacey, Devin, and Christian; his brothers, Rick (Karen) LaHuis, and Thomas (Margaret) LaHuis; and numerous brother- and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and family friends. Rod graduated from Wyoming Park High School in 1967. He was an electrician foreman at Lakeland Electric, specializing in industrial generators, for over 50 years. Rod had a love of sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Lions and the University of Michigan. He also loved to bowl and was in numerous leagues throughout his life with his longtime friends, Jim Bobledyk, Mike Hogan, Jerry Dikker, and Ted Atwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont. Burial will take place at Blythefield Memory Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, April 17, from 6-8 pm and also from 10-11a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to a charity of one’s choice.
