Robert “Jim” Tanis

Robert “Jim” James Tanis, age 83, of Allendale, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, May 31, 2021. Jim was kind and servant hearted and was blessed with the gift of serving others. He was a career U.S. Air Force officer from 1957 - 1977, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service as a Master Sergeant working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and Andrews Air Force Base. Following retirement from the service, Jim worked for Leprino Foods. Upon retiring from Leprino, he went on to serve at the Ottawa County Emergency Management Program assisting with volunteer coordination and setup. He enjoyed the privilege of giving back to his community and also established many friendships. Jim was active over the years as a Mason, earning his rank of 33rd degree. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Ruth; children, Amy Tanis, Rick Tanis; brothers-in-law and sister-in-laws, David and Joyce Bussema, Nan and Al Rausch; as well as many loving extended family members. A graveside service will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery and will be announced at a later date.
