Robert (Bob) Peter Scripsema, age 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior July 30, 2016. He was born April 24, 1925, in Grandville, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Mary (DeHamer) Scripsema; brother, Donald Scripsema; and great granddaughter, Nadia French. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Roberta (Goul) Scripsema; daughter, Linda (Rob) Umstead; son, Paul (Karen) Scripsema; grandchildren, Nathan (Vanessa) Umstead, Emily (Paul) Pearson, Megan (Mark) Williams, Kaitlin (Bryant) DeKruyter, Elysia (Justin) French, and Ashley (Ryan) VanRavenswaay; great grandchildren, Miles, Naomi, Isabell and Reese; sister, Fran (Hank) Christians; brother, Len (Lois) Scripsema; sister-in-law, Arlene Scripsema. Bob was a kind, loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the Grandville HS 1943 senior class president, and served in the Air Force during WWII as a B-24 maintenance crewman based in Boise, ID. It was there that he met and married Roberta. They returned to Grand Rapids where he worked for Miller-Zylstra Lumber as a sales rep. and a home planner and later joined Osterink Construction as a construction manager and cost estimator. Bob and Bobby frequently returned to her family cattle ranch in Horseshoe Bend, ID. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club and a regular participant in the weekly Churchmen luncheon at Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was an avid fisherman, duck hunter and passionate owner of 6 black Labradors. He loved spending time at his cabin on the Big Manistee River and enjoyed wood carving in his later years. Bob and his wife were charter members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and later in life attended Calvary Church of Grand Rapids. A graveside service for friends and family will be held on Friday, August 5, at 12:00 PM at Grandville Cemetery.

We appreciate all Bob has done for Eastminster over all the years...from initial construction of the building, to Camp Scott-E, and to his recent role as a consultant on a wide variety of building and finance issues. He was always helpful, thoughtful, and a true friend. John Battey
