Robert James Luurtsema, age 74, of Hudsonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2016 surrounded by his family and friends. Robert owned and operated “Luurtsema Tree Farm” in Hudsonville with his wife Susan. His passion for the Christmas tree farm allowed him the opportunity to share in the joy of the holiday season by supplying the traditional holiday centerpiece for thousands of families thru the years. He loved to participate in all outdoor activities, especially those outings that pulled together large groups of family and friends and were centered around involving everyone in activities related to camping, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Luurtsema; his brother, Allen Luurtsema; granddaughter, Sydney Luurtsema; and great granddaughter, Brimley Barks. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan; his children, Michael (Leta) Luurtsema, Mark (Jennifer) Luurtsema, Scott (Ruth) Luurtsema, Kristen (Bryan) Barks; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, at 11 AM at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, MI with Pastor Andrew Jackson and Pastor Ryan Wieland officiating. Interment Blendon Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Drive SW, Grandville, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Grandville United Methodist Church - Congregational Care or Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Sorry this so late but I just found out about Bob. He and I started working at Walmart on the same day and worked in the same department.for awhile . Bob was so much fun to work with with his loud booming voice and his sense of humor. He certainly made going to work something to look forward too, I’m so very sorry for your loss he was a good man.

Luurtsema family - I heard of Bob's passing through the grape vine. I treasure warm memories of working on the farm, making wreaths (which were always lopsided but I enjoyed trying!), and spending holidays with all of you. My heart and prayers are with you all.

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. May God surround you with his comfort and peace. We always appreciated Bob's advice about Christmas Trees and wreaths.
