Robert G. McConnaughey, age 93 of Byron Center, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vita, brothers, John “Jack” (Pat), David (Rosemary), James (Nora), sisters, Mary Alice (Owen Salisbury) (Sidney) Bryant, Kathryn “Kate” (Mel Hoekstra) (Fred) Clancy, brother-in-law, Emmett Amidon. Bob will be dearly missed by his children, Elizabeth Ginebaugh, Barbara (Mark) Scott; sister, Jean Amidon; sister-in-law, Eleanor McConnaughey; grandchildren, Deborah Ginebaugh, Shawn (Andy) Smith, David Ginebaugh, Jordan Ginebaugh, Julie Scott and fiancé, Jason Schrenk, Karalyn Scott, Christina Scott; special nephew, Robert (Nancy) Thorndill; many nieces, nephews and numerous friends from the SJV Village. Bob valiantly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a gregarious, loving family man, who enjoyed time with friends and family, always ready with a joke. His Irish nature required that everyone leave him with a smile. Bob loved photography, crafts, fly-tying and dogs. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Saturday at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with Fr. Mike Alber presiding. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will meet relatives and friends Thursday 6-8 pm and Friday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with a vigil service Friday at 6 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the SJV Foundation or Aquinas College Alumni Association.
