Richard “Rick” Marek

Richard “Rick” Marek, age 84 of Byron Center, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emily, brothers, Tom, Frank and James and sisters, Dorothy and Virginia. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Donna (Daane); their children, Richard and Marian Marek, Kathleen and Dr. Bernard King, John and Valerie Marek, Ruth and Richard Schmiedicke; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Caroline Salvail, Marcia and Bob Delano, Patricia Marek, Connie and Keith Lord; brothers, Edward and Darlene Marek, Larry Lee Marek; sisters-in-law, Nancy Marek, Maryann Marek; many nieces and nephews. Rick was the owner of Marek Tool & Die, and was a workaholic until he retired and could play. He enjoyed walking in the woods, landscaping and motorcycles. He was passionate about running and participated in the first 21 River Bank Runs. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Tuesday at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, with Fr. Mike Alber presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. The family will meet relatives and friends Monday 2-4pm & 6-8pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Holland.
