Richard (Rick) Joel Baarda, age 51 of Grand Rapids, passed away at his home on June 15, 2019 and is finally at peace after a long battle with multiple health issues.  Rick was a proud graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School class of 1986.  He had many talents but was very blessed with his athletic abilities and quick wit.  Rick’s true passion was baseball and collecting baseball cards.  He could tell you stats on almost any player you asked him about.  He was preceded in death by his devoted parents Frederick & Carol Baarda.  Rick is survived by his two amazing sons whom he was so proud of, AFC Connor Baarda and Nicholas Baker.  He is also survived by his one and only sister Debra (Dave) Koster along with his Aunt Thelma and Uncle Al Carr.  Rick will be lovingly missed by his 2 nephews Derek (Kari) Koster and Daniel (Caitlin) Koster and many other special family, friends, and great nieces and great nephews.  Per Rick’s request, cremation has taken place.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday, June 21 from 6-8 PM at Matthysse Kuiper Degraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood.  In addition, a Celebration of Life cookout will be held on Sunday, June 23 from 6-9 PM, at Aberdeen Park, 798 Evelyn St. NE, Grand Rapids.  Please bring your ball and glove and join us for burgers, hot dogs and an old-fashioned game of baseball to remember Rick how he would like to be remembered.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mary Free Bed Hospital in Rick’s name.
