Richard Corey

Richard Corey, age 97, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2023. Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After he left the military, Richard worked as an engineer for Bendix Corporation where he worked on missile systems for the Department of Defense and then later for the DOD as Chief of Contracts for the Great Lakes region. Richard was an avid skier who passed that love onto his kids. He won national competitions in downhill skiing and was a part of the National Ski Patrol for many years. Richard also loved to sail and travel the country with his wife in their RV. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Corey; siblings, Theo, Jean, Maryann, and Billy. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Carol Vanderhoff, Nancy Corey, David (Kathy) Corey; grandchildren, Holly Vanderhoff, Jeff Vanderhoff, Erin Pruitt, David Scott Corey, Stefanie (Nate Blossom) Corey, Summer (Matt) Strickler, Madison Corey; great-grandchildren, Kai Corey, Esme Pruitt, Ezra Pruit, Kinsley Strickler, Oliver Strickler; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Please meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday if you wish to join in on the procession to the cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the National Ski Patrol or Corewell Health Hospice.
