Raymond R. Schichtel

Raymond R. Schichtel, age 76 of Kentwood, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 of COVID-19. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Pamela Sue Hansen Schichtel; children, Melinda Rae Tuttle, Raymond Delos Schichtel; grandson, Maxwell C. Tuttle. Ray is also survived by his siblings, Rosemary Schnipke, Arthur (Linda) Schichtel, Dorothy (Tom) Lake, John (Trish) Schichtel, Theresa (Emmitt) Reynolds, Joseph Schichtel, Michael (Deb) Schichtel, Patricia (Rich) Canfield; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Eder; many special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alma Schichtel; brother, Thomas Schichtel. Ray’s love for his family made them his priority. He enjoyed traveling with Pam and with family, but not for too long as he was the first one to get homesick. He loved being Max’s Grandpa. Retirement allowed Ray to always have time for gardening, woodworking, painting, golfing, watching the Lions play (or not) and listening to Ricky Nelson. He was a true movie buff and oh did he have a sweet tooth. Ultimately, being with family is what he loved the most. The family wishes to thank the many wonderful doctors, nurses and aides in the COVID-19 wing of Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital for their exemplary care of both Ray and Pam. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in his memory to The Hope Fund at Spectrum Health Foundation, 25 Michigan NE, Suite 4100, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. All donations are kept local to benefit the staff in COVID at Spectrum Grand Rapids.

Dear Pam & Family: We were so sad to see the obituary for Ray. He was such a wonderful man. Also sad to read that he had to deal with the Covid 19 virus. Hoping that he didn't have to suffer long with that. You were such a blessing for so many years for Tom's sister and we were so thankful for you. Ray was a fortunate man to have such a caring and loving wife. Our sympathy to all of you
