Raymond Buys

Raymond L. Buys, age 89, of Jenison, was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 24, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis; grandson, Matthew Buys; one brother and two sisters; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He will be dearly missed by his children; Gary and Sheila Buys, Doug and Merribeth Buys, Sheryl and Doug Haveman, Jack Buys, Dave and Jean Buys; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marge Schryer and Liz Poll; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Ray valiantly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Marines. He was a warm, kind, and loving husband, father and grandfather. Ray was dedicated to his faith in Jesus and served many years on the Twelfth Avenue Christian Reformed Church Council. He loved his family and especially his grandkids. Ray was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, camp and fish. He and Phyllis enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. Ray was a faithful employee of Steelcase for over 28 years. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and has many trophies indicating his prowess with the game. A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. James Evenhouse officiating. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home website. The burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery.
