Ramon Vela,

VELA - Mr. Ramon Vela Jr., aged 89 passed away Wednesday May 2, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and his daughter, Diamantina Schimdt. Surviving are his children, Reymundo Vela (Brenda), Edelmiro Vela (Diane), Christina Vela (Ruben), Rosalinda DeVries (Doug), Ramon Vela, Yolanda Vela, Rosario DeJesus (Ronnie), Racquel Vela; his former wife and mother of his children, Maria Vela; 24 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Elida Ramos, Martha Rodriquez, Verta Capistran; many nieces and nephews. Ramon proudly served his country in both the US Marine Corp., and the US Navy in WWII and the Korean Conflict. While serving in WWII he was captured and a POW for four years. A memorial service will be held 1:00PM Tuesday May 8, 2012 at the Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 3131 S. Division Ave. His family will greet relatives and friends Tuesday from 11:00AM until time of service. Inurnment Holy Cross Cemetery.
