Phyllis Ruth Huistra

Phyllis R. Huistra, age 88, of Allendale went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Phyllis worked for many years as a manager at the Michigan Employment Security Commission until her retirement. Phyllis was an avid sports fan especially when it came to her beloved Detroit Lions. She loved to golf and bowl and would watch whatever sport happened to be on TV. She also loved to travel and would visit places all over the country. Another passion of Phyllis’ was politics; she loved to debate and would stay up to date on all the current events. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Huistra; son, Robert Tiller Jr.; mother, Margaret; sisters, Virginia Elson, Shirley Locklin. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Karen Tiller, Mike Tiller, Jeff (Lisa) Tiller, Doug (Mary) Tiller, Judy (Bruce) Walcott; her special granddaughter, Maria Huistra; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Ulberg, Vivian Vos, James (Ellen) Van Dyke; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with Pastor Adam Kosberg officiating. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 10-11 am at the funeral home before services. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Purple Heart Foundation.
