Phyllis Jean Vodry, age 89, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 12, 2024. Born and raised in Wyoming, Michigan, Phyllis was the cherished daughter of Thomas and Ruth Cook. She attended Wyoming Park High School and later pursued classes at Grand Rapids Community College. Phyllis’ life changed forever when she was set up on a blind date with the love of her life, Robert Vodry. Their first date at the bowling alley marked the beginning of a love story that blossomed into over 50 years of marriage. After a year of dating, Phyllis and Robert exchanged vows on September 28, 1957, embarking on a lifelong journey of love, faith, and family. For over two decades, Phyllis was a devoted member of Sunshine Community Church, where she found strength and joy in her faith. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was central to her life, and she cherished attending Bible studies and worship. Phyllis’ greatest pride was her family, and she was deeply devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness. She also had a profound love for music, which brought her comfort and joy throughout her life. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Vodry; her daughter, Debra Lynn Vodry; her sister, Barb and Richard Busser; and brother, Tom Cook. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving children, Katherine Kemp, Susan and Joe Baltruczak, Mark Vodry, and Mike and Patte Vodry; her grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Kemp and their father, Dale Kemp, Brad and Beth Baltruczak, Justin and Lisa Baltruczak, Mallory and Ben Preston, Lisa and Dan Kross, Kathryn Carl, Caleb Dieleman, Jennie, and Steffanie Vodry; many great-grandchildren; brothers, David and Lynn Cook, Dan Cook, sister-in-laws, Lucy Vodry, Mavis and Ron Tryon; and many nieces and nephews. Phyllis Vodry will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and the warmth she brought to everyone she knew. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire those who knew her. Funeral services to celebrate Phyllis’ life and faith will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Entombment to follow at Rosedale Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, October 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
