Phyllis Jean (Reedy) Hamilton was born May7,1939 and raised in Evart, MI. She passed away on October 23, 2021 at Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living in Hudsonville, MI, where she had been residing since June of 2020. Phyllis spent most of her adult life in Grayling, MI, where she raised her family. She was a stay-at-home mom who devoted her life to taking great care of her six children. Some of the fondest memories her children have are the home cooked meals and baked goods she prepared for them.
Phyllis was a valued member of the Grayling community, active in the Grayling Promotional Association, as well as her church St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a parishioner there for many years and spent a lot of time volunteering within her church community. She was a member of the women’s Auxiliary group and a Eucharistic Minister, along with the choir. Always willing to lend a helping hand where needed, she will be remembered for her kindness and beautiful spirit.
She had many artistic talents and shared them through her paintings, floral arrangements, and other crafts, as well as the many items of clothing she made for her children. She was an avid reader as well as a history buff and loved to visit museums. She also enjoyed traveling and did so throughout the US, as well as Africa, Italy, and France.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Kirk Hamilton; parents, Arly and Vera Reedy; brothers, Maurice and Jack Reedy; and sisters, Geraldine Carmody, Vivian Doane. She is survived by her children, Michael (Julie) Hamilton, Tina (Mark) Palinsky, Mark (Olga) Hamilton, Sherry Ward, and Laura (James) Myers; along with her grandchildren, Christopher (Hannah) Graham, Emily Ward, Ava, Ian and Jacob Myers, Abigail Hamilton; along with many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may meet the family at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave SE in Kentwood on Thursday, November 4, from 6-8 pm, and from 12-1 pm Friday, November 5 prior to the service at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft SE in Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking you to consider making a memorial contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association by visiting their website at: www.alz.org.
