Armstrong, Philip On Monday, May 12, 2014, Philip Armstrong, age 89, went peacefully into the arms of his Savior (Jesus), who held his life in his hands and with whom he had put his trust.  Philip was an active participant in WWII, including Omaha Beach on D-Day and a survivor of four additional campaigns.  Philip was also a recipient of two purple hearts.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Hila; and his brothers, Raymond and Edwin.  He is survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lois Armstrong, Wilbur and Priscilla Huizing, Louis and Joan Huizing, Lucille and Frank Rosekopf; dear friend, Loraine Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday 11 AM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home   (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW with Rev. Ken Havert officiating.  Interment Grandville Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
