Remembering Philip A.  Potter

Potter, Philip A. Philip A. Potter, age 66, of Hudsonville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday afternoon, November 6, 2013.  He was the only one of seven boys born in a hospital to Nick and Emily (Peck) Potter.  His humor, laughter and smiles will be cherished by all those who knew him.  He will surely be missed.  After graduating from Grandville High School, he attended Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music followed by the Grand Rapids Police Academy.  He served Grand Rapids for 37 years as a police officer.  When he wasn’t fishing, hunting or gardening, he could be found golfing or bowling.  He also enjoyed helping on projects at New Life Baptist Fellowship which he helped establish this past year.  Phil was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Larry, James and Leslie.  He will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Jaci; his children and grandchildren, Philip and Melissa Potter (Philip Jake), Paul and Nicki Potter (Emily, Jared, Sarah, Natalie), Jamie and Keith Bont (Rebecca, Jonathan, Andrew, Thomas); brothers and sister, Leon and June Potter, Dale and Rosie Potter, Merle and Gloria Potter, Kathy and Al Tuinstra; sisters-in-law, Zoe Potter, Lyn and Mark Shoemaker; many nieces, nephews and “copies”.  A celebration of Phil’s life will be held on Monday 11 am at New Life Baptist Fellowship, 6252 Burlingame SW, Byron Center, with his brother, Pastor Dale Potter and Pastor C. Powers Payton officiating.  Interment Riverbend Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-5 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to New Life Baptist Fellowship.

My heart goes out to you and your family. We know that we WILL see him again in Glory. Praise God for his comfort and the strength He gives us during times like these. Tim and Nancy Van Nest

My sincere condolences to the family. May God provide all of you with strength and courage during this difficult time. In his word, God promises to soon bring our loved ones that have passed away back to life again at Isaiah 26:19; and he also promises to remove all sufferings and death forever at Revelation 21:3-5. May all these heartwarming promises soon to come bring comfort to the family as you all cherish loving memories of Philip. Anonymous

I loved mr. potter like he was my own grandpa. I could count on a smile and a big warm hug every time I saw him. He always cared about how school or my new job was going. He cared. He cared about people and he cared about witnessing for the Lord. Although we will be away from him, it will only be a short time because we get to spend eternity in heaven alongside him. I cannot wait for that day. You have touch the lives of so many mr. potter. love you. bethaney webster
