Peter Joseph Salamone

Peter Joseph Salamone, age 73, of Wyoming, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his son, Pete Salamone Jr.; brother, Marco Salamone; sister, Nena Bard; sister-in-law, Lynn Vanderlinde; brother-in-law, John DeLong. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Marjorie; daughter, Laurie (Robert) DeWitt; son, Timothy (Carey) Salamone; grandchildren: Deanna (Jacob) Stewart, Joseph DeWitt, Trevor and Chase Salamone, Shelby Salamone; great grandson, Carter Stewart; sister, Carmella (Edward) Grodus; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws: Josephine Salamone, Lewis Bard, Barbara DeLong, Gail (John) Soos, Robert (Sherry) Merrihew; many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Pete loved sports and was a sports official for many years. He also loved music and music trivia. Pete was a beloved husband and father, but most of all, he loved being a grandfather. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4101 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming, with Fr. Phil Shangraw, Celebrant. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 & 6-9 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with a rosary at 3:30 pm. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Garden at Brookcrest Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of West Michigan.

I remember Pete very well from OHHS Class of 1993. Even though the family is likely not to know me, Pete was a member of one of biology classes that I taught at that time. He was also a regular player on the tennis team that I coached. I am very sorry for your loss (and the community's loss). Pete was a fun-loving, well-liked and a fine young man.
