Peter Jay Elenbaas, age 87, of Hudsonville, was called home to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 24, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Winne Elenbaas; his first wife of 42 years, Laura Elenbaas; his stepson, Kurtis Storteboom; his step grandson, Caleb Storteboom; and his siblings, Rog, Harv, Norman, Esther, and MaryLou. He was a kind and loving husband, dad, and grandpa who always put others before himself. Pete had a contagious smile that brought joy to all who knew him. Pete had the gift of compassion and acceptance of everyone. He used this gift through his involvement with AA for the past 33 years. Pete embraced the message of AA that helped him through his journey so he could carry the message to others. He was a mentor to many and established many lifelong friendships through this. Pete was the former owner of Pete’s Auto Parts, in Hudsonville, which he founded in 1956. It continues to be operated today by 3rd generation, Amber Kendrick. He also served his community with the Georgetown Township Fire Department for 26 years, retiring as captain. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, JoAnne Elenbaas; Pete’s children and grandchildren, Mike and Mary Elenbaaas (Chris and Jane, Rebecca, Molly), Ron and Susan Elenbaas (Amber and Andrew Kendrick, Scott and Erika Elenbaas, Kaylee Elenbaas, Anna and Trevor Pincombe), Barbara Elenbaas; JoAnne’s children and grandchildren, Jim and Trudy Storteboom (Erika and Tyler Vander Muelen, Autumn Storteboom, Alexis and Spencer Smith, Andrew Storteboom, Elizabeth Storteboom), Kim and Fred Honore’ (Kristina and Ken McQueen, Leslie and Brad Knoper, Derick and Rebecca Honore’, Andrew and Steffanie Honore’), Kurtis Storteboom’s son, Dylan Storteboom, Craig and Jeannie Storteboom (Craig Storteboom), Ron Storteboom (Kylie and Zach Zoerhof, Anthony Niewiek) and friend, Robin. He is also survived by their 13 shared great-grandchildren; brother, Eldon and Evie Elenbaas; sister-in-law, Minnie Elenbaas; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Lamont Community Church, 14000 48th Ave., Coopersville, with Rev. Rick LeFebre officiating. The burial will be held at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, October 28, from 4-7 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf, 6651 Scott St., Allendale and also on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Right to Life of Holland or Lamont Community Church for the support of the Kenyan Shikunga Orphanage.
