Penny Van Duinen

Penny Jo Van Duinen, age 65, affectionately known by her family as “Gia”, entered her Heavenly Home on Sunday, September 21, 2025, passing peacefully and surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. Penny was a fighter—she faced her cancer diagnosis with courage, grace, and an unrelenting spirit. While her absence leaves a tremendous void, there is comfort in knowing that her body is now fully healed, and she is walking hand in hand with her Lord and Savior.

Penny’s love for her family was evident in every part of her life, and she will be fiercely missed by her parents, children, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Chris Canfield. She is survived by her loving parents, Ray and Wanda Canfield; her brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Tammy Canfield; her children, Lindsay and Jeremy Scully, Zach and Noelle Van Duinen, Leslie and Levi Rost, and Ashleigh and Philip Leistra. Penny’s legacy continues through her precious grandchildren: Lucy, Jay, and Grace Scully; Addelyn, Lukas, and Andi Van Duinen; Landon, Lexi, Leeanna, and Lennox Rost; and Paige, Brady, Charleigh, and Hope Leistra.

Penny’s unwavering faith, radiant smile, and deep devotion to her family will forever be cherished. Though her earthly journey has ended, her love and influence will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, at Jamestown Baptist Church, 2472 Quincy St., Hudsonville, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. The burial will take place at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Jamestown Baptist Church.
