Posting date of obituary 1/12/2018 HENDERSON - After a hard fought, cancerous battle, Peggy Sue Henderson (55 years young) rested easy, once and for all, on Sunday December 24, 2017. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Lu Shull Gauthier; her step-father, James Gauthier; and grandmother, Luella Feil. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Kristen Balogh; grandson, Wesley Gazzolo; brothers, Paul Henderson; Phil (and wife Laura) Henderson; sister, Pam (and husband Norm) Pokley; father, Alexander Henderson Jr. Peggy was known for her strong spirit, kind soul, and iron-willed personality. She had strong beliefs that she pursued passionately and never thought twice about helping a friend in need, even if it wasn't personally convenient. After numerous hospital stays and home care experiences over the past few years, there was a reoccurring theme from her care givers; "We love Peggy! She is such a sweet lady." Her pride and joy was her daughter and grandson. She had a passion for all things outdoors; gardening, working with her hands, and sports. As a die-hard Detroit Lions and Red Wings fan and true sports enthusiast, Peggy was always involved in athletics. As a young girl, she was the first girl on an all boy's little league baseball team, and moved on to be the captain of her hockey team. She coached her daughter's soccer and softball teams, and continued to be an avid fan of all sports. A Memorial Service will take place 2:00 PM Sunday, January 21 at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, MI. Although flowers are welcomed, (Peggy loved her garden!) the family is asking to consider making a donation to St. Jude's Hospital in lieu of sending flowers.
