RICHER, PEG (THORA) ELIZABETH, nee PHENIX, age 90, of Wyoming, was given the gift of life on April 14, 1927 and on January 12, 2018 left her loving, earthly family to whom she was our beloved matriarch. She left this earth to be reunited with the love of her life, Howard; her parents, John and Clara; and her brother, Bill and so many dear ones that went before her. Her three children, John and Rose Richer, Denise and Wayne Slooter, and Beverly Richer; three grandchildren, Holly Jones, Chelsea and Rob Jackson, and Travis Slooter; great grandchildren, Gabriel and Charlotte Jones, Owen and Iver Jackson will cherish the memory of their mom, grandma, and great grandma until they leave their earthly home. Peg became an activist for the POW-MIA cause when her son, John, came safely home from Vietnam. Peg discovered in her teens that she was adopted. In the late 70’s she became co-founder of Adoption Identity Movement (AIM) and helped over 6,200 families search for their birth siblings, parents, and children in over 35 years. When she wasn’t cleaning, organizing, or being an activist, she and Howard travelled across the country. In 2015, we began the long goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend. It has been the most heart breaking of goodbyes. Our only comfort is the knowledge that she is happy, whole in body and mind, and at peace. We cannot express enough gratitude for the tender loving care provided by Comfort Keepers and the compassion and caring of Hospice of Michigan. The funeral service for Peg will be held Wednesday, January 17 at 12:00 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming with Pastor Lee Welker. Relatives and friends may meet the family for visitation on Tuesday, January 16 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family requests that flowers not be sent. The family would appreciate donations to Hospice of Michigan or a charity of choice.

I have been friends with Peg for almost 50 years! She was a great dancer and we had many great times together! She loved to sing and enjoyed going to her place up north on vacation. She had a generous spirit and always helping people including my daughter Peg. I have many fond memories of the time spent with her including working together. I also enjoyed knowing all of her children. Please accept my sincere sympathies and I am sorry I cannot be there as I am no longer in Michigan

Your mother was such a sweet person and a great friend to my mother Betty. I remember when they both came to Maui for a month and what fun they had together here! Sending lots of aloha to your family.

I was so sorry to hear of your mother and grandmothers passing. Your mom helped me more than words can say with AIM. She was so willing to listen to everyone’s stories over and over again while they shed tears. Those meetings were a great help to me. You have my sympathy at this most difficult time. Sally Jernigan
