MATES - Mrs. Pearl E. Mates, aged 90, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Bessie Simmons; children, Gloria J. Lamkin, Warren (Butch) C. Mates Jr.; sisters, Gladys Denn, Laura Scarborough. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Warren C. Mates; daughter, Jeanna Smith; step daughter, Mitzi A. Mates; grandchildren, Michael (Susie) Mates, Laurie (Tom) Matt, Matthew (Chelsea) Mates, Joshua Mates, Lyndsay Mates; 2 great grandchildren, Lacie, Mary Beth Mates; sister, Phyllis Murray-Patterson; brother-in-law, William Denn; nieces, Carol A. Scarborough, Mary Scarborough-Henderson, Pamela J. Kirby, Molly T. Murray, Julie A. Hawksworth; nephews, Stephen Denn, Daniel J. Murray; close friends, Jane Osborn, Jeanine Buckner, Tonya Blower. A special thank you to all of her caregivers: Kathy Orozco, Kim Versluise, Elizabeth (Liz) Zalenski, Oletha (Lee) Knight and Rose Kimereng. Pearl was a blood donor to Michigan Blood giving 12 ½ gallons and received her recognition pin in October 1994. Funeral services will be held 3:45 PM Thursday October 13, 2011 at the Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 3131 S. Division Ave. . Her family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 to 3:45 PM Thursday, prior to the service. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
