Paul “Ted” Carpenter Jr.

Paul “Ted” Carpenter Jr., age 73, of Jenison, was called to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 30, 2020.  “Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.” Psalm 73:24. A loving husband, dad, and grandpa who cherished his family, Ted and his wife Carol enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. Together they have two wonderful children, Kim and Tony Benac, Kevin and Jen Carpenter; precious grandchildren, Samantha, and Peyton Benac, Cameron, Alexis, and Ava Carpenter; siblings, Dick and Andee Carpenter, Valerie and Robert Becerra, Bob and Sue Carpenter, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary Carpenter, Roger and Rosa Petroelje, Harry and Mary Petroelje, Kathy Petroelje; many special aunts, uncles, and cousins, and several dear friends. Ted was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Carpenter; brother-in-law, Ken Petroelje; and Kevin and Jen’s infant child. Ted was a Navy Veteran, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. He worked as a steel welder, draftsman, and welder repair technician for 35 years. His hobbies included building and flying RC planes, and rebuilding classic cars. He and his wife enjoyed camping, fall color tours, flower gardening, and Nightsounds radio at midnight. We thank our Cottonwood Church family, neighbors, and friends for the love, assistance, and prayers during Ted’s illness. Above all, we thank our Lord Jesus for providing the best skilled and caring doctors and nurses to care for Ted. Our gratitude cannot be expressed in words.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Matthew Palsrok officiating.  Interment will be held at River Bend Cemetery at a later date.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday, February 3, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home and on Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Finish the Mission (a local Grand Rapids Veteran Assistance Program).
