Patsy Jean Downs, age 84, of Jenison, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, May 31, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; son, Chuck Myers; parents, Letha and Maynard Gardner; brother, Donald Gardner.  She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gina Lynn and Doug DeVries, Bonnie and James Denton, Lori Jean Riemersma, Dan and Pam Mervau; daughter-in-law, Nancy Myers; son-in-law, Dennis Riemersma; very dear friend, Chris Braun; 14 grandchildren; 13  great-grandchildren; brother, David Gardner; nieces and nephews; and her sweet pet companions, Rocky and Hutch. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, with Pastor Jim Stortz officiating.  Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.

I met Patsy when I was just 21 and starting my new job with the county. She took me under her wing and treated me like a daughter. We went out to lunch every Wednesday for years. She was always there for me when I needed an ear to listen to my worries. I learned a lot from her. She was a great person to be friends with. I’ve missed her and I’m sorry I didn’t reach out to her. A sad loss.

What a blessing your Mother is to you even now as you have her living memory in the many family stories and shared moments that your heart knows. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so sorry. May the gift of friends and family comfort you as time alone carries you through these difficulties. Know that you are loved by many.
