Patrick Broderick

July 9, 2025

At the edge of Dragon Lake in Kinderhook, Michigan, where morning mist danced across the water, Patrick, aged 68, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. On the same shores where he'd learned to fish as a boy, Patrick had crafted a life of simple, profound contentment and a legacy of place and purpose.

For decades, Patrick worked at Grandville Printing, where his steady hands guided paper through massive presses with the same precision he brought to everything he touched. But unlike so many who became consumed by their careers, Patrick understood a fundamental truth: he worked to live, not the other way around. The printing press paid the bills, but time with family and friends fed his soul.

Sara and Pat’s pontoon boat became their vessel for adventure, puttering slowly around the lake's perimeter as Patrick pointed out a great blue heron standing sentinel in the shallows, or a family of deer drinking at the water's edge. It brought Pat immense joy playing sink the corner on the raft, building sandcastles, and bonfire conversations. He enjoyed sharing these experiences with family and friends.

But perhaps Patrick's greatest gift was his willingness to listen and share. Friends and family alike knew they could knock on his door with a broken window frame or a stubborn cabinet door, and Patrick would set down whatever he was doing to lend a hand. His woodworking skills were meticulous with the right tool for every purpose, and every purpose met with generosity.

"Measure twice, cut once," he'd say, running his weathered hands along a piece of wood, feeling for imperfections that others might miss. But his perfectionism wasn't harsh or demanding; it was the quiet satisfaction of doing things right, of creating something that would last for others.

Patrick Broderick understood that a well-lived life isn't measured in achievements or accolades, but in the depth of our connections and the care we bring to both the grand gestures and the smallest details. Surrounded by family and friends he cherished and the community he served, he had built something more enduring than any piece of fine carpentry—a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and quiet wisdom that would ripple through generations like the gentle waves across his beloved lake. He will most certainly be missed but has left a legacy that will endure.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Lois Broderick; brother, John Broderick; brother-in-law,  John Selke; sister-in-law, Chin Jo Broderick; and parents-in-law, Harold and Alice McCune.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sara; children, Joseph (Kitty) Broderick, Meghann (Vincent) Ong, Bambi (Robinson) Hollingsworth, Terry Neymeiyer Jr., and Eva (his loving and loyal four-legged kid); grandchildren, Adriana, Lillian, Brooklynn, Jaelynn, Kellen, Brayden, CiCi, Leo, and Julia; siblings, Francis (Cheryl) Broderick, Daniel Broderick, Mark Broderick, Constance (Jeffrey) Kramer, and Julie Selke; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold (Sandy) McCune, Lori (Thomas) Aukeman, Amy (Javier) Kowalski, Tina (Carlos) Munoz; and a brood of over 40+ nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who Patrick loved very much.

I am deeply saddened upon learning of Pats passing. This is truly a huge loss of an amazing person and a man that demonstrated how life should be lived. I feel very blessed to have worked with and have known Pat during my years at GPC and am sorry we lost contact after my retirement and moving to SC. He was as special as any one person could be and I wish Sara and the family peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Pat and interacting with him on an almost daily basis before he retired. He rarely deviated from being one of the most kind and positive persons I have known. I can only imagine how much he is missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace, my friend.

Worked with Pat for many years. Always a positive attitude in spite of his health issues. Had many personal conversations with him. Loved his humor and smile. He is in a better place and cancer free.
