Patricia Jean Bushong

Patricia Jean Bushong, age 89, of Jenison, formerly of Redford Twp., passed into the arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 2, 2017. She was born October 26, 1927 in Detroit to Robert Evan and Lilian Ladysmith (Weber) Price. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George Lynn Bushong Sr. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: George Lynn Jr. and Rosemary Bushong, Cynthia and Howard VanGorder, Patricia and James Kluz; grandchildren: Rebecca, Sarah, Timothy (Sarah), and Rachael Kluz, Donna (Brett) Giles, and Evan Bushong; great grandchildren: Vivian, Abigail, Brooklynn, Olivia, and Miya Kluz, Samuel and Lucy Giles; and her cousin, Margaret Brown. Pat taught Music and English for over 30 years at Redford Union Schools. She was a gifted violinist, pianist, church choir director/organist, and a proud member of the Concert Ministries Michigan/Ohio Choir for several years. She also enjoyed knitting, needlecrafts, extreme dot to dot and traveling, including South Africa, Australia, Holy Lands, and Europe. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 6651 Scott St., Allendale, with Rev. James Winn officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to American Center for Law and Justice or Faith Hospice.

I have just recently heard about Pat's death. I have worked and known her through my HHA position at Sunset Home Services. Pat was a very interesting and wonderful lady and I enjoyed being with her. My thoughts are with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren..It has been a joy to have known her.

I remember Mrs. Bushong as a cheerful, vital contributor to a healthy church family during those long-ago growing up years for my sister and me.... Much time has passed and yet in memories the energy and warmth experienced at Rice Memorial remain. There is comfort in the thought of our mother, Jessie Brown with Mrs. Bushong and their friends, sharing and enjoying heaven together.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Losing a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, and/or a good friend is one of the hardest things we will ever do. Be assured that it will get easier over time...I still miss my mother Jessie (who was a good friend of Mrs. B from Rice Church) every day but am beginning to find comfort in my memories, realizing that she will always be a part of me. One of my favorite verses says "Our loved ones never truly leave us... They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared, and the love they brought into our lives." My deepest condolences on the loss of your Mother. She is in the midst of many great memories of our extended family at Rice. From teaching us songs to perform st vacation bible school when we were all very young, to many many choir rehearsals and Sunday morning services. She and George were good friends to my folks and they enjoyed retreats up to Oscoda together. I know her loss will be felt as deeply as her love for her family. RiP Mrs. Bushong.

To the Bushong family, I am so sorry for your loss. Words cannot describe the incredible amount of pain you may be feeling right now. I know words can only work so much at this time, but please allow gods word to comfort you at this time. Isaiah 26:19 says: "Your dead will live. My corpses will rise up. Awake and shout joyfully, you residents in the dust! The earth will let those powerless in death come to life" This is one of many scriptures that talk about a resurrection of our dead loved ones right to this earth! Mrs. B was a wonderful lady. I had her as a teacher at Pearson Jr. High, in church choir at Rice Memorial Methodist Church, both her and her husband, George were my parent's good friends, she was a sister in Christ; and as I became an adult, she became my friend. She will be missed.
