Oscar Lavern Kimble, age 97, of Comstock Park, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Oscar was born on February 13, 1927, in Walker, Michigan to Ellsworth and Cloey Kimble. He was the very last one standing in a line of many brothers and sisters-in-law. Oscar grew up loving engines. He eventually became a master mechanic, where he taught and mentored many along the way. He was married to the love of his life, Marjorie. In the late 1940’s, he began building the home that he had lived in for more than 75 years. Oscar and Marjorie loved ballroom dancing and enjoyed years of attending events together. They developed a love of cross-country travel, beginning with just a tent and ending with a motor home. He proudly served his country in the Navy in World War II and was a member of American Legion Post #258 and Creston VFW Post #47. Oscar began his career as a scrap truck driver heading back and forth to Chicago and graduated to operator of cranes and other heavy equipment. He worked for over 35 years at Joe Brown and Sons, where he developed many great friendships. He belonged to the strongest and most democratic labor union in the world, Teamster’s, for his entire career. After his beloved Marge passed away, he eventually met Patricia Wilkerson and they danced through many adventures, fun, and friendships along the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Marjorie; infant son, Oscar; brothers, Everett, Virgil, Ray, Robert; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law from both sides of the family. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Linda and Robert Standley, Robert and Linda Kimble, Patrick and Mary Ellen Kimble, Jack and Crystal Kimble, Susen and Carlton Adams; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, MI with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will take place at Blythefield Memory Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Monday, July 1, from 5-8 pm at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Legion Boat and Canoe Club Building Fund.
