Remembering Norman Schut
Norman “Norm” Schut, age 84, of Jenison, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 23, 2026.
Born on October 26, 1941, Norm was the third child of Lambert and Henrietta Schut. From the age of 15 he worked the family farmland alongside his brothers, developing a lifelong love of farming on the land that God had entrusted to his family.
Norm served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, stationed in Germany. After his military service he returned home to Jenison and continued working the family farm. In 1985 he began a long career with Hap Hoekwater and Sons, faithfully laboring in the work he knew and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lambert and Henrietta Schut; siblings, Leonard (Mary) Schut, Harley Schut, and Hazel (Carl) Bode; sister-in-law, Betty Schut and brother-in-law, Warren Brouwer. Norm is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Grace; his children, Joleen (Jason) Apol, Jennifer (Scott) Bouwkamp, and Jeff (Bethel) Schut; his grandchildren: Alex Apol, Esther (Andrew) Bronkema, Samuel Apol, David Apol, Rebecca Apol, Tylar Bouwkamp, Matt Bouwkamp (special friend, Olivia Rewa), Louis Schut, Grace (Quint) Leland, Collin, Adrianna, Cole, Lawrence, and Evert Schut; his siblings, Gerri Brouwer, Nan Schut, Jan (Dave) Baar, Louise (Marty) Nivison, Junior (Marie) Schut, Barb (Roger) DeKoekkoek, Bob (Louisa) Schut, and Thea (Craig) Wilhoite; and many nieces and nephews.
A quiet man who spent his life working the same soil where he was born, Norm lived out his faith in daily faithfulness to God, family, and the work set before him. He now rests in the sure hope of the resurrection and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, who said, “And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43 NKJV)
