Mrs.  Lucile Andrews

ANDREWS- Lucile Ann (Kurant) Andrews, age 94 died on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Andrews and seven siblings, being the last of William and Mary Kurant's children. She is survived by her sons, William (Linda) Andrews of Comstock Park, Donald (Robin) Andrews of Rockford and daughter, Susan Andrews of Ada. Lucile often said, "my greatest joy and proudest achievement was raising my children." After graduating from Rockford High School, she worked in a Muskegon electrical component factory which supplied mine parts during the war, also volunteering as a nurses aide. After the war she married returning veteran William, setting up residence in Wolf Lake, near Muskegon. The family moved to Traverse City for a few years, then returned to Grand Rapids. She became active in the 9th Infantry Division Association with her husband shortly after the war, remaining involved for the rest of her life. As she raised her children, Lucile worked part time as a reporter for Sparta Sentinel Leader, helped in the redistricting of the newly formed Kenowa Hills Public School District and was a part time realtor with Village Belles Realty. When her children were grown, she took a full time position with the IRS and later with Michigan Unemployment Security Commission. She also was active in Alpine Township, serving on the planning commission for several years. During the time she spent in assisted living and nursing home care she brought comfort to fellow residents by being an attentive listener. Staff also enjoyed her lively interaction and the extravagant stories she told, embellished with her infectious laugh. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1120 Four Mile Rd. NE, Grand Rapids The family will greet relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 16 at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. NE, Belmont with a Rosary at 7:00 pm.
