Mr.  Leon Schutter

Leon "Jon" Schutter, age 74 of Walker, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 surrounded by family at Faith Hospice. Surviving is his wife of nearly 55 years, Carol; their children, Jeffery (Laurie), Gregory, and Keith (Linda) Schutter; grandchildren: Jackie, Erik, James, Christian and Andrew Schutter, Erica and Kathryn Chaney, Alexis (Thomas) Chelone; and great granddaughter, Mary Ann Chelone. He is also survived by his brothers; James (Delores), Charles (Sharon), Robert (Betty), Mark (Susan); and sisters, Edith (Robert) Howland, Ruth (Clayton) Nuttall, Carolyn (Doug) Veihl, Jane Schutter and Christine (Larry) Covington. He is also survived by in laws Alvin and Marilyn (Sheldon) VanderWoude, Howard and Eleanor (Sheldon) Witte, Steve and Barbara Sheldon and Mother in law Jean Sheldon. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anna (Christensen) Schutter. Jon graduated from Grant High School in 1958, served in the Army for two years and later became a police officer first for Norton Township then for the City of Grand Rapids where he proudly served until retiring after 31 years. Jon loved to travel and until recently enjoyed spending his winters with Carol in Mesa, Arizona. Visitation will be Friday, November 15th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. NE, in Belmont. No formal services will be held.
