Mr.  Allen Little

October 28, 1920 ~ April 10, 2014

Allen Lawrence Little, aged 93 of Elberta, went to be with the Lord, Friday, April 11, 2014. Born in Elberta on October 29, 1920 the son of Robert B. Little and Mary L. Ives. Allen graduated from Elberta High School. During high school, he played on the basketball team nicknamed Betsie Bay Bandits, having 18 straight wins and two state championships. The team went undefeated the year of 1936-37. Shortly after school, on June 29, 1940, Allen married his high school sweetheart Mabel Summerfield. He went on to honorably serve in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Dorothea L. Dix. Before retiring from the Ann Arbor Railroad, Allen served as Superintendent in both Manistique and Elberta. He had a green thumb and could grow the most beautiful flowers and garden. He especially liked watching the birds around his yard, throughout his life he raised chickens, pigeons, pheasants, rabbits and his swan. Allen was a life member of the Masonic Lodge No 270 and the Elberta United Methodist Church, which his grandfather helped build. He spent many years serving his church in various positions and enjoyed decorating the altar for services, holidays and special events. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Surviving are his children, Mary (Dick) Putney and Morris Little; grandchildren, Kimberly (Todd) Nordquist, Michelle (Kirk) Amador, Patricia Little, Scott Little and Paul Little; great grandchildren Wesley Nordquist, Ashlee and Drew Amador, Christina and Paul Little; many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years Mabel; son Allen William; daughter-in-law, Patsy Little; great grandsons Grant and Alex Nordquist; his three brothers and sister.A celebration of Allen's life will be held 1:00PM Thursday, April 17 at the Elberta United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Fay officiating. His family will greet relatives and friends Wednesday, April 16 from 5 to 8PM at the Jowett Family Funeral Homes in Benzonia and one hour prior to the service at Church. Interment Gilmore Twp., Cemetery. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Frankfort. Memorial contributions may be directed to Allen and Mabel's Church, the Elberta UMC.
