Mildred “Milly” Holtvluwer

Mildred “Milly” Holtvluwer, age 79, of Jenison, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Milly loved Jesus, her family, volunteering, hosting, teaching and traveling. She was a very talented seamstress who blessed others with pajamas, burp cloths, mending and so much more. Milly was always up for a “Holtvluwer Adventure” which created so many memories with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joys. She always had time for them, cheered them on, texted them, delivered unexpected gifts and covered them in prayer. Milly lived out her deep and abiding faith in Christ through volunteering at Hudsonville Christian School, Revive Resale Store, Cottonwood CRC and serving anyone who had a need.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Martheen Griffioen; sisters-in-law, Mary Holtvluwer and Nancy Holtvluwer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Douglas Holtvluwer. Doug and Milly were a team, together they could create or fix anything. He was her rock. She will also be loved and missed by their children, Brenda and Douglas VanderPloeg, Gwen and Troy DeLong, Mark and Wendy Holtvluwer; grandchildren, Tony, Jeff and Blake, and Paul VanderPloeg, Britta, Janae, Darci and Heather DeLong and Nina Holtvluwer; sister, Shirley and Arnie Snoeyink; brother, Dr. Glenn Geelhoed; brothers-in-law, Rev Don Griffioen, Jim and Rachel Holtvluwer, and Curt Holtvluwer; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Cottonwood Church, 1101 Cypress Drive, Jenison, with Pastor Matt Palsrok officiating. The burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday, August 6, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mission to Heal or to the Calvin University Holtvluwer Family Scholarship.
