Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
Mildred May Geglio, aged 95, peacefully entered the gates of Heaven on November 30, 2020, at the Rose Garden Assisted Living Center in Grandville, Michigan where she resided the last two years. While her health slowly declined and dementia advanced, it was Covid19 that ultimately contributed to her passing. Mildred was born on June 29, 1925 in Albion, Michigan and was adopted by John and Alice Veen and their son Clarence who preceded her in death. She grew up during the depression era and moved several times. Despite this she shared many stories of happy times in her childhood. At 18 she married Theodore VanSingel and moved to different locations to be with him during his training in the US Army. She was widowed before age 20 when Ted was killed in the Battle of the Bulge. After some time she found love again with a dark and handsome Italian. She married Anthony Geglio in 1947 and together they had seven children before Anthony was tragically killed in a work accident leaving her a widow again at age 46. Mildred (Millie) lived the rest of her days dedicated to raising their children and loving her 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Family was always first and she made every birthday and holiday special. She prepared many delicious meals, loved to travel, play Bingo, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, but card games were her favorite pastime. She passed on her love of cards to her family even though she strictly followed the rules and would often say “there are no friends in cards”. She lived independently until age 93 when she moved to the Rose Garden. Mildred will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children, Anthony (Judy) Geglio, Bonnie (Larry) Melville, Rosanne (Philip) DeZwaan, Victoria (Douglas) Hoekstra, Melinda (Terry) Haehnel, William (Kimberly) Geglio and Charles (Gina) Geglio. Also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Lena Dattilo. Grandson, Anthony C. Geglio, also preceded her in death. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Rose Garden and Emmanuel Hospice for their tender care. A private family funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, December 4, 2020 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with Pastor Don VanSlyke officiating. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. Due to gathering restrictions, there will be a limit on the number of people who may enter the building at a time. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Sunset Legacy Foundation.
