Michelle (Mickey) Schoenborn

August 7, 2021

Our Heavenly Father gained an immensely special angel as Michelle “Mickey” Schoenborn was greeted by the love of her life. Art’s embrace was the treasured beginning of their eternal reward. They are rejoicing as they dance together and reminisce about all those that were touched by their generous spirits. Their love life began with this story which Mickey wrote after Art’s passing about eight months ago. On a Saturday night in 1966, across the dance floor a blonde caught the eye of a tall redhead, and so a love story began. Five months and one day later, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon, they committed their lives to each other and were blessed to have been married for more than 54 years. Mickey was preceded into eternal life by her soulmate, Arthur Schoenborn; her parents, Charles (Paula) Habetler and Dolores Ducius Workman; her sisters, Paula Sue (Gary, widower) Virag and Judy Workman; and her Sleeping Angel grandsons, Ian, Evan, and Jonas Schoenborn. Mickey’s greatest gifts were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and they will miss her evermore. They include: Dennis Schoenborn and his son, Deacon, and daughter, Cassidy; Scott Schoenborn, his wife, Candy, and their daughters, Emma and Ailie; Lisa and Jon Voss and their sons, Kellen, Travis, Maddox (Max), and McClain (Mickey); Mike Schoenborn, his wife, Amy, and Mike’s sons, Aidan and Nathaniel; Julie and Bob Veldman and their daughters, Gabriella, Robin, and Erin and sons, Jacob, Keith, Kevin, and Kyle; and her ten great-grandchildren: Trinity, Kaiden, Serenity, Sola, Kya, Alexandria, Kolten, Conor, Mekhi, and Roland. She had special bonds with her sister, Debra (Larry’s widow) Habetler Sechen, her brothers, Harold and Ralph Workman; her sisters-in law, Ruth (Jim) Tomaszweski, Roselie Schoenborn (Steve’s widow), Betty (Bert) Schoenborn, and Norma (Jeff) Luke; adopted family and neighbors, Pete and Tricia Litwinchuk; and her precious girlfriends, her Red Hat Sisters who supported and guided each other for decades. Mickey had so many cherished children from her more than 40 years of doing in-home daycare. Mickey became their second Mom, a comfort, a cheerleader, and an expert cake maker. She watched countless movies and played many games. Faith and family always came first for Mickey. She loved these sentiments: Our family is a circle of strength and love. With every birth and every union, the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love. Every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Mickey’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Fr. Stephen Durkee officiating. The family will host a visitation at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW on Friday, August 13, from 5-7:30 pm with a vigil service being held at 7:30 pm, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Sleeping Angels Endowment Fund through the Spectrum Health Foundation. One of her favorite card games ended with these words: “We hope you had a happy time, happy time, happy time, hope you had a happy time. We had a good time, boop, boop!”

Mickey was a wonderful person and Mother. She was full of fun and laughter, always there to help others in anyway she could. We also enjoyed her company at High School events for the kids and dances at the church. Her family was her life. God has a beautiful Angel. Thanks for being in my life and sharing your receipts. You will be missed.

Mickey was an beautiful woman, mother and friend. She had so much love to give, and she spread it around to all of us. She was an amazing cook, a fiercely competitive card player, and a gracious host who always made you feel welcome in her home. She always joined in on the fun, and liked it best when there was a crowd around. Beyond anything, she loved her family... especially her grandchildren. She celebrated their birthdays and their half-birthdays. She made each one feel special on every holiday with baskets at Easter, personal gifts at Christmas, and Halloween treats (She wore great costumes). She put together parties for all the graduations, confirmations and first-communions. She was an inspiration to every family and showed what it meant to truly be a loving mother and grandmother. We feel honored and blessed to have been part of her life. We Love You Mickey and will miss you every day.
