Michael Scott McKinney

Michael Scott McKinney, age 78, of Caledonia was called home by his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 6, 2025.  He was born September 11, 1946 to the late Donald and Beulah McKinney. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary F. McKinney; his sister, Susan LaCombe; and brother, Patrick McKinney.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Tonya (Jody) Heaton and Tara Marble; and his cherished grandchildren, Justin, Kacy, and Ally Heaton. Also surviving are his brother, Terry (Leesa) McKinney; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Mike was the former owner and operator of Mike McKinney Poured Wall and McKinney Investments. Mike enjoyed hunting, traveling, gardening, going to the movies, and attending concerts. A true foodie, he loved dining out with his grandchildren, friends, and workout buddies. He could often be found in his pole barn tinkering with one of his many projects, usually with his truest companion and beloved late dog, Jaxon, by his side until March of 2025. Mike and Mary had spent much of their time together travelling the world, with Grand Cayman being their favorite. Mike enjoyed swimming and snorkeling in the clear waters, taking endless boat trips to Stingray City, swimming with the dolphins, and drinking a cold one on the beach of Rum Point. 

He will be remembered as the best “Papa” to his grandchildren and as a kindhearted, loyal man whose generosity touched many.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 15, 2025  at One.Church, 8175 Broadmoor Ave. SE, Caledonia with Pastor Brian Mote officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood and on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mel Trotter Ministries or Thornapple Arts Council.
