Michael Ray Shedd, 79, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away on January 25, 2026. As a young man, he answered his country’s call and served honorably in the United States Army in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters. His service was marked by courage, resilience, and a deep commitment to the men and women he served alongside. Though he rarely spoke of the hardships he endured, his quiet strength and steady character reflected the sacrifices he made. After returning home, Michael built a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and love for his family. He was known as someone who could always be counted on—whether offering advice, lending a helping hand, or simply showing up when it mattered most. He took pride in his work, his home, his community, and he carried the values of service and perseverance into every chapter of his life. He was a strong, steady, and faithful servant of God. He lived a life of faithful service and joyful generosity. He worked for Mary Free Bed in the prosthetics department where he learned his skill. His deep desire to help others led him on many mission trips to Ecuador and Costa Rica with the ROMP Organization, where he shared his skills, faith, and compassion. He supported family and friends with a joyful heart and strong hands, always ready to lend practical help and steady encouragement. An avid camper and traveler, Michael loved the outdoors and the simple pleasures of time spent with loved ones around a campfire with a cup of Coffee or exploring new places. He will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy of faith, service, and kindness will live on in their lives. He is survived by his wife, Michele; children, Tina Elliott, Michael (Stacy) Shedd, Andrew (Sara) King, and Jennifer Bos; sister, Carole Moore; grandchildren, Johnathan Elliott, Benjamin Stinson, Chandler Shedd, Joslin Shedd, Kylee (Zach) Crable, Colin King, Hannah Bos, Hailey Bos (Justin White) Kamryn Bos; 3 great grandsons.
